The Good Neighbours Care Centre has been serving the Peterborough community since 1984.

Since then, we have become the largest supplier of food and clothing in the city.

We are entirely volunteer-run and rely on community support and partners like Kawartha Food share to supply clients with the fresh food, clothing and children’s items they need.

Who we are

In 2024, we are taking the bold step of re-imagining how a non-profit can work in the 21st century.

To realise our plans, we need to innovate in nearly every aspect of our organisation.

We made our first steps in 2022, when we transformed our physical space. As a result, we have reduced client wait time, installed air conditioning and reorganised the space, so that significantly increased our ability to regulate our food supply and standardised our processes.

What we’re planning

In 2024, we are taking the bold step of re-imagining how a local non-profit can work in the 21st century.

To realise our plans, we will need to innovate in nearly every aspect of our organisation.

To do that, we need your help.

Here’s what we’ve got planned:

Community Building

We haven’t done a great job of connecting with the larger Peterborough community. We’d like to do better.

Part of that is building up communication channels - social media and a newsletter, so we can more easily share what’s happening at the Care Centre.

Another part is thinking bigger about opportunities to volunteer. Being available during the day to serve clients is a the core part of our volunteer need.

But there’s also a lot of ways people can volunteer remotely, at a time that better fits their schedule.

Join us in re-imaging what those roles could be.

In order to facilitate remote volunteering and also make sure we’re making the best use of our existing resources, we’ve identified digital transformation as a theme for the next two years.

This means exploring our data to find blind spots, opportunities to optimise and improve our forecasting.

It also means improving our back office systems so they can accommodate remote work and also avoid losing knowledge and momentum when a volunteer moves on.

In the future, this foundation of innovative thinking will make it easier for us to attract the partners and funding sources that can help us serve our clients better.
